Tor Browser Setup for Maximum Privacy
Verify the installer
Download the installer directly from torproject.org. Verify the PGP signature before opening the file. A broken hash means someone touched the binary during transit. Most users skip this step, but it takes thirty seconds and prevents supply chain attacks. Extract the archive and run the executable. On Windows, select the option to create a desktop shortcut. On Linux, make sure the sandbox permissions allow network access.
Set the slider to Safest
Open the browser and locate the shield icon in the top right corner. Click it and choose Security Level. Move the slider to Safest. This setting disables scripts on all sites. Some marketplaces will not render correctly at this level. If a specific vendor page fails to load, adjust the security setting for that domain only. Use the green plus sign next to the domain name to override the global rule. Do not set it back to Standard globally.
Bridges for blocked regions
Bridges help when Tor gets blocked in your region. Go to Settings, then Advanced, and enable the Use a Bridge checkbox. Select a built-in bridge or paste a custom one. Obfs4 bridges usually survive longer than vanilla ORB ports. If a bridge stops responding within ten minutes, grab another from the contact list. Changing bridges frequently prevents local ISPs from building a profile of your activity.
Check your fingerprint
Check the fingerprint resistance test periodically. Visit the Tor Browser Check page. It compares your window size, fonts, and canvas rendering against other users. If you stand out, reduce your screen resolution or change font settings in the OS. For direct links to stable entry nodes, visit the mirrors page on Awazon Market. It updates with fresh addresses after every rotation.
